A team buidling event for Standards for England

In 2009 TMP helped Standards for England recruit three new directors to their management team. As part of the recruitment process the candidates completed a personality questionnaire from Saville Consulting’s WAVE® suite of assessment tools. Following the new directors joining the organisation, the remaining members of the senior management team at Standards for England also completed the personality questionnaire as part of their ongoing development. The whole senior management team, including the Chief Executive, then had one to one feedback sessions with a TMP consultant skilled in the use of WAVE, to explore and understand their results.

Members of the management team commented that they found the personality
feedback process beneficial; feeling that it really increased their self awareness around their strengths and weaknesses and how they contribute to the team. All were keen to share their results with each other and have a discussion around what this meant for their focus and business strategy and how they were going to address any team weaknesses identified as well as maximise on their strengths. TMP were invited to facilitate this discussion in a workshop style event.

The Solution
The workshop objectives were:
• To discover, acknowledge and accept each others’ differences and similarities
• To understand the team’s strengths and weaknesses and discuss how these
can help or hinder the achievement of team objectives.

The first step was for TMP to design a bespoke feedback report collating the
individual’s results into an overview of the senior management team with the average for the team and the scores for each individual.

TMP then designed and delivered a half day workshop. The workshop was
a mixture of presentation, discussion and practical exercises and explored the
team profile in the four WAVE® clusters; Thought, Influence, Adaptability and
Delivery.

Identifying the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of the team results compared to the organisation’s culture, value and strategic objectives.
The facilitator provided insight into their interpretation of the personality results of the team in each cluster, facilitating a discussion of these.

Results and Client Feedback

Throughout the workshop the issues to be addressed were identified by the team and at the end of the workshop, the team drafted an action plan including next steps and responsibilities and deadlines.
